About our Zero-Tolerance Policy

We recognise that things may not always go according to plan and that factors can lead to stressful situations at the worst of times. We have a suggestions and complaints process available on our website to help us resolve any issues that you encounter.

However, a zero-tolerance policy relating to violent, threatening, and abusive behaviour towards staff and other patients is now in place throughout the National Health Service. The staff in this practice have the right to do their work in an environment free from such behaviour, and everything will be done to protect that right.

The NHS operates a zero-tolerance policy regarding violence and abuse, and the practice has the right to remove violent patients from the list with immediate effect to safeguard practice staff, patients, and other persons. Violence in this context includes actual or threatened physical violence or verbal abuse which leads to fear for a person’s safety. In this situation, we will notify the patient in writing of their removal from the list and record in the patient’s medical records the fact of the removal and the circumstances leading to it.

At no time will any violent, threatening, or abusive behaviour be tolerated in this practice. In all instances of such behaviour towards our staff, the police will be notified and a crime reference number received, which will then be passed onto NHS England to commence the removal of the patient in breach of our zero-tolerance policy.
